Synology DS218+ upgrade - Enquiries - 09-12-2022 Hi, I have my NAS now for 3/4 years with the 6TB setup in RAID1, so 3TB usable storage. I am looking in upgrading the storage since I have been struggling for quite some time now by deleting stuff etc. Now I was looking at different sizes of storage and brands. WD Red plus/pro caught my attention, I know pro is more enterprise usage but they seem to be a bit cheaper sometimes? The thing I am struggling with is the max amount of storage that can be insert in the NAS per bay (if there is any?) and what you would recommend to be future proof. Also keeping in mind I would like to have more than just me using the NAS for backups and file storage. Looking forward to reading your opinions, cheers! RE: Synology DS218+ upgrade - ed - 09-16-2022 Yes, you could also use Pro drives. They last longer, but they are also noisier. Usually, Synology mention maximum limit based on biggest drives that are available at the time of release. But others keep telling us that they also use 22TB drives that are bigger than recommended and everything works just fine. I hope this helps. |
