DX517 - Enquiries - 09-11-2022 Good Evening and may the Queen rest in Haven, I have a DS920+ and am filling it. I started with 4 6TB drives. I have swapped 2 of them with 14TB drives running SHR. I'm fixing to buy 2 either 16TB of 18 TB drives. I was thinking about buying the DX517 and putting the old 6TB drives in it. I read somewhere that you should NOT run the same volume over the sata cable to the DX517. Is this true? RE: DX517 - ed - 09-11-2022 This expansion unit is made to allow you to expand an existing volume. Some people worry that you could accidentally disconnect or break the cable which could cause a RAID failure. Slim chance, but possible. In meantime, you could get another NAS and link them both together as mapped network drives if this is a worry. The expansion unit will also allow you to create a standalone RAID. I hope this helps. |
