DS920+ - Enquiries - 08-15-2022

We currently have a RS3617xs but we are running into issues with 4k transcoding. On paper, with my limited understanding, it looks like it should outperform and do a better job than the oft-recommended DS920+ but maybe I'm missing something?

It depends on what video you are transcoding. DS920+ built-in graphics can handle videos up to 1080P better than XS series models. Simply because it doesn't need to use raw CPU power. If you are using the Synology video app, this chip can handle also 4K. But if you try to transcode 4K in Plex, DS920+ will not be able to do this. This is when Xeon based models will show their superiority.

I hope this helps.
