Baest Nas for Photographer? - Enquiries - 02-28-2020

Hi,
I have been asked to creased a NAS for a photographer and was looking at the Linus Tech Tips video https://youtu.be/FAy9N1vX76o and wondering wich system you would recommend FreeNAS core or Unraid?

FreeNAS and Unraid require regular maintenance and they consume more electricity without any need. With a NAS it has just enough power to do the job and it has a convenient shape and it comes with regular updates, support and new functionality. As a photographer, you may consider multimedia friendly hardware. Celeron based NAS would be able to transcode any videos you may have. It also would be fast enough for a single photo editor. But you may consider something you can run data transfers at a faster speed such as 2.5/5GbE or even 10GbE.The New Qnap 53D series feature 2.5GbE LAN ports and can be upgraded via a PCIe slot. But if you consider 10GbE speeds then I would recommend something with a faster CPU such as Pentium/Intel core i3-5-7 or Xeon.Qnap and Synology come with a free photo organising app allowing you to filter photos by locations, faces and objects found in photos. This might be handy if you need to find something particular.TVS-472XT / 672xt / 872xt would be the best choice. But 53D would be OK for a single editor.I hope this helps.
