Upgrading from synology DS214SE to either DS920+ or DS 1520? - Enquiries - 02-28-2020

Intent to upgrade . currently have 2TB on the DS214 which is almost full . If i were to upgrade to either one of above two synology NAS

can i run both as independent NAS on the same network with different online access

and if that is not possible , how to migrate data from the 214se to new NAS - ie can the HDD from the 214 se be included in one of the bays on the new NAS .

please advise

thank you

Yes, you can run multiple NASes in the same network. You can use different IP or Quickconnect ID to find and connect. I would recommend keeping an old NAS as a backup solution for the new NAS. It is simple to set up and will keep your data safe again disasters like burglars. At the same time, it can still be used as a regular NAS.If you do decide to migrate the old drives, you will need to use a backup and copy data over. Only like to like replacement NAS can have simple drive migration.I hope this helps.
