NAS selection - Enquiries - 02-06-2026 Hello, HUGE…fan of your channel and I’ve been watching for many years. I’m the process of building a separate NAS. I have Synology but want to add a media server which i cannot run on Synology DS220+. I have already bought an 8bay, and motherboard you recommended, (M-ATX case) with focus on low power consumption yet has great performance while keeping it under 35W TDP. I also need to run Docker or containers on it as I would like to host services like Pi-Hole, pFsense and other services. Not too many, maybe 4. In time I think I will outgrow my 2bay Synology, but you are right in saying it is easy to use. The hardware is just too limiting. I am fairly technical but do not have the time to dedicate hrs to management daily. I need to set and forget. Which OS provides best virtualization, containerization, stability, data integrity, and ease of use? Your thoughts are appreciated. |
