NAS Hardware recommendations - Enquiries - 01-29-2026 Hello, I recently build a new computer and my next project was building my first NAS. I was debating if I should use my old machine as the NAS or sell it and buy some new/used parts and build something. My main concern is that my old computer is too overkill for a basic NAS as it has a R9 3900x, G Skill trident Z Neo 16GB DDR4, X570 Aorus Ultra, 850w EVGA Gold PSU, and a 3080 in it. I would take out the GPU to sell and I could throw in a GT710 I have since the CPU has no igpu, but idk if that would have the same effect as an igpu. I would also need a new case either way as my current one has no drive bays. I like the idea of a small form factor case like the SST-DS380B, but that seems to not be made anymore and only available on ebay from what I can find. It is also more expensive than something like the Fractal Design Define R5. What I would like if something with 8 drive bays with 4 8TB drives so I can expand in the future. I will be putting TrueNas on it and have already tested it. |
