Pick best nas for 4k plex sserver - Enquiries - 12-01-2025
looking for help pick the best nas under 500 for a plex server that can handle 4k. i have my drives for now I would like 4+ drive bays to expand later.
i have seen these options
QNAP TS‑464 4‑Bay NAS
TerraMaster F4‑424 4‑Bay NAS
UGREEN NASync DXP4800 4‑Bay NAS
From what I understand Synology isn't a good option for plex because they changed the way transcoding works

Hi there, and thanks for getting in touch. All three systems you listed will run Plex and can handle 4K playback as long as your TV or streaming device supports direct play. For basic home use they all get the job done.
If you want something stable and proven, the QNAP TS-464 is the safest pick. It has mature software, good long term support, and plenty of upgrade options. The other two brands offer strong hardware for the price, but they are either newer or more budget focused, so I would not rely on them without a proper backup plan in place.
