Nas Advice - Enquiries - 11-27-2025

I am looking for a NAS for personal backup but want to have the option to use it for more demanding tasks in the future. That’s why I found the High performance hardware for the price from Ugreen quite appealing. Are there other options and are there drawbacks of Ugreen not being around for long?

Hi there, and thanks for getting in touch. UGREEN does give you very strong hardware for the price, and for simple personal backup it will handle everything you need today with plenty of headroom for later. The main drawback is simply that the platform is still young. The hardware is great, but the software is newer than the more established brands, and long term support is still something we are all watching closely.

If you want something with a longer track record in the same budget, look at two bay units from Synology or QNAP. They cost a little more for the raw specs, but you get mature software, regular updates, better mobile apps, and a much larger feature set if you decide to expand the role of the NAS later. These systems also make backups and restore tasks very simple, which matters if your main use right now is personal data protection.

With your current drives, a two bay model is the right choice, and you can always upgrade the capacity down the line.
