Advise for first NAS purchase - Enquiries - 11-27-2025

Thank you for your videos and I am enjoying the content however still confused. Since Black friday is there and I want to buy my first NAS so need your advise. I just want to use NAS for two purposes to run my movies on the Sony TV with android and backup my files. I am wondering which NAS to buy. After watching the videos I can think of few Ugreen, QNAP or Terramaster. I am also stretched to think buy a 2 bay NAS with SSD to avoid Noise as it will be sitting in my living room or 4 bay NAS with 5400 rpm HDD as they will be making noise. Please advise models as what I have in mind is Ugreen 4300 or DMX 4800 which I think is too much. Terramaster F4 - 424 PRo or Qnap TS-464-8G-US. Thank you for your time

If you want the quietest possible setup, SSDs are the best choice. They remove all vibration and make the NAS almost silent. If SSDs feel too expensive for the full capacity you want, you can also use very quiet options like WD Red Plus or even laptop grade 2.5 inch HDDs, which run with far less noise than 3.5 inch drives.

You also have the option of going for a silent style NAS. Asustor has the Flashstor series, and QNAP has several compact models that stay very quiet, especially when paired with SSDs. These work well in a living room because you avoid the constant low level hum that larger four bay units can produce.

Your streaming needs are simple, so you do not need a heavy system. A quiet two bay NAS with SSDs is ideal, or a small four bay unit with low noise drives if you want more capacity later.
