Help selecting a NAS system - Enquiries - 11-24-2025

Looking to replace my cloud storage with a on premise NAS.
Perference would to have seamless sync with my iphone photos,
Ability to retreieve files remotely, (similar to a google drive)

Main usage is for storing files and opening files on the phone outside of the network.

For what you need seamless iPhone photo syncing, simple remote file access, and something that works like Google Drive without any complicated setup a basic two bay NAS is ideal. With your budget under three hundred, the best option is the Synology DS223. It is easy to set up, works perfectly with iOS photo backup through Synology Photos, and gives you full remote access to all your files. It also allows you to expand storage later by swapping in larger drives.

If you want the cheapest possible setup, the DS120j or DS118 can also work, but the DS223 gives you better performance and a much longer support window. You do not need anything more powerful since you are mainly storing files and accessing them remotely.
