nas - Enquiries - 11-14-2025 Hi ,Im looking for a nas ideally qnap or synology with the longest support posible. The dilemma I have is that 2 models im interested in TS-464 has approx 18 months support left and TS-453E about 3 years according to QNAP support.Which is very short for $500 .Id go with synology 25 series but it doesn't support 3rd party discs; I already have wd reds. Should I wait for Qnap new release or there is other options avalible ? please advise RE: nas - ed - 11-14-2025 Thanks for the message. Just to clear up the confusion, both of those QNAP models will still be supported for another six to seven years. QNAP does not drop models after a short window and both the TS464 and TS453E are still well within their normal update cycle. On the Synology side, the situation has also changed. All 2025 Plus series models and every older model continue to support third party hard drives. Synology has already updated their policy and there is no indication they will reverse that for the DS series. Your WD Red drives will work fine in any current Plus model. So you do not need to avoid Synology because of drive support, and you do not need to worry about QNAP support ending any time soon. You can safely choose based on features and performance rather than fear of early end of life. |
