Initial Guidance - Enquiries - 10-15-2025

I'm an old IT guy but not schooled on the technical side, so my need is more structure rather than tech.
I live in Indonesia and my family is located in various world locations. I want to give them access to my photo library, and I want to provide some of them with local access to their own personal document files.
I'm in the process of installing an Asustor AS1104T and probably need guidance on how to structure file share directories to provide both family access to photos as we;; as selective access to music.
Locally, the photos need to be available on the Android phones and TV.
The directory structure and providing individual access is where I think my challenges will be.
Can you offer guidance here?

Hi, thanks for reaching out. The AS1104T is a good choice for family media sharing, and you can absolutely set it up to give everyone private access while keeping shared content like photos and music open to all. The key is to build a clear folder structure and assign permissions properly from the start.

Here’s a simple layout that works well for families:
• /Family_Photos – shared read-only access for everyone so nobody can accidentally delete files.
• /Family_Music – shared read-only access, same idea as above.
• /Users – create a subfolder for each person (for example, /Users/John, /Users/Anna, /Users/Mum). Give each person full access to only their own folder.

On Android phones and TVs, install AiFoto and AiMusic from Asustor, or connect via DLNA/Media Server so the devices can see your shared folders automatically.

You can create and manage all these folders from Access Control → Shared Folders in ADM, then assign permissions under Access Control → Users or Groups.
