SSD cache on DSM 7.3 - Enquiries - 10-15-2025 Hi, I am considering buying a Synology DS1825+ and using DSM 7.3. Is it possible to use 3rd party NVMe as SSD cache? I ask because the ones from Synology are much more expensive. RE: SSD cache on DSM 7.3 - ed - 10-15-2025 Hi, good question. On the DS1825+ running DSM 7.3, only third-party HDDs are fully supported. Synology still restricts NVMe SSDs to Synology-branded models (like the SNV3410 or SNV3510) for cache use. Third-party NVMe drives will be detected, but DSM will not allow them to be configured as cache unless you run a custom script to unlock that feature. If you plan to stay within official support and warranty, you’ll need to use Synology’s own NVMe drives for caching. If you’re comfortable with unofficial methods, there are community scripts on GitHub that enable third-party NVMe cache use, though these aren’t officially supported and should be used with care. |
