DS923+ drive compatibility - Enquiries - 10-03-2025

Hello, I'd like to know if the ST8000NM0045 Seagate drives will work in a DS923+. Would you happen to know? Thanks!

The good news is that the DS923+ is part of the older 23+ series, so it does not enforce the Synology-only drive rules that were introduced in the 2025+ models. That means you can use your Seagate ST8000NM0045 drives without any issues — DSM will recognize them, build storage pools, and allow full RAID setup.

The only thing you might notice is that DSM could mark them as “not on the compatibility list,” but that’s just a warning. In practice they work fine, and many users are running Seagate EXOS and IronWolf models in the DS923+.

So yes, your 8TB drives will work in the DS923+, and you’ll have the flexibility to expand or mix brands if needed in the future.
