• TS-464eU: This is a 1U rackmount NAS, much shallower than typical rack systems (short-depth). It’s designed for rack environments with space constraints, like network cabinets or AV racks. It loses the HDMI output, and its cooling is louder due to the smaller chassis and fans. It also uses an external power brick.
If you’re setting up the NAS in your home or small office without a dedicated rack, the TS-464 is the better choice — quieter, more versatile, and easier to live with. Go with the eU model only if rackmounting is a hard requirement and you’re okay with the added noise and fewer multimedia features.
