Mother build for True Nas server - Enquiries - 06-09-2025 I need a Motherboard that will support 6 to 8 hard drives.A graphics card, maybe 128 to 256 GB error correcting memory, low power consumption. This is what I have found so far. A2SDi-4C-HLN4F but with the number of drives I require and the need for trans coding it falls short. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. RE: Mother build for True Nas server - ed - 06-13-2025 Your requirements are clear ā support for 6 to 8 drives, ECC memory up to 128ā256GB, low power consumption, and enough GPU power for transcoding. The A2SDi-4C-HLN4F is a solid board but limited in drive support and GPU options, as you noticed. For your needs, Iād recommend looking at server-grade or workstation motherboards with multiple SATA or SAS ports and PCIe slots for a dedicated GPU. Some options to consider: Supermicro X12 or X13 series boards with onboard SAS controllers or room for SAS HBAs ASUS Pro WS series motherboards, which support ECC and multiple PCIe slots Use a SAS HBA like the LSI 9300-8i to add more drives via mini SAS cables You can also use PCIe or M.2 NVMe slots with SATA expansion adapters to gain additional SATA ports if needed For the GPU, many go with low-power Nvidia cards like the GTX 1650 or RTX 3050 for Plex transcoding ā these balance power consumption and performance well. Make sure to verify CPU compatibility to support ECC memory. |
