Qnap NAS TS 853A - Enquiries - 04-29-2025

I now have 2 ea QNAP TS-853A NAS,

As they are getting old I am considering replacing them.
I want to be able to move my HD's over without having to copy etc.

I have been looking at the QNAP TS-873 model.

Can I move my HD's directly and just bootup.

Or, what model would you recommend ?

Thank you

If you move all your hard drives from the QNAP TS-853A to the QNAP TS-873, it should work seamlessly, just like that. As long as you’re using the same RAID configuration and the drives are intact, you can simply transfer the drives to the new NAS, power it on, and it should recognize your existing RAID array without issue. There's no need to copy data or reconfigure everything.

QNAP's RAID setup is generally flexible enough that moving drives between compatible models won't cause any problems. However, I’d still recommend making a backup just in case, as it's always good practice when making major changes to your system.

The TS-873 is a great choice, but you could also consider other newer models like the TS-873A or even something in the TS-x73A series for better future-proofing with 2.5GbE or 10GbE options if you need faster speeds.
