For your DS920+ and Plex setup, both WD Red and IronWolf drives are solid options, especially for 4-bay configurations. Given that you’re looking to expand from 8TB drives, I’d recommend sticking with drives in the 8TB-14TB range for a good balance of cost, reliability, and performance.

IronWolf 8TB or 10TB: These are a good choice if you want reliable performance for your Plex server and file storage. They’re designed for NAS use and offer great performance with a good value for money.

IronWolf Pro (10TB or 12TB): If you want something more robust, especially if you’re looking for longer durability and higher workloads, the Pro version might be worth considering, as it comes with a 5-year warranty and is more suited for heavier usage.

WD Red (8TB or 10TB): The WD Red series is reliable and quiet, making them a good option for smaller NAS setups like yours. The standard WD Red drives are also designed for NAS environments, but if you anticipate higher workloads or want longer-term durability, the WD Red Plus or WD Red Pro models are a step up.

If you’re aiming for a mix of reliability and performance, IronWolf (not Pro) in the 10TB range would be the sweet spot for most users. They’re reasonably priced and will offer good performance for media streaming, file storage, and running your Plex server.
