Deleting storage pool - Enquiries - 03-24-2025

I am adding smaller drives to a backup NAS and I need to delete the currant storage pool which has 2 12TB drives so I can rebuild a storage pool with 4 drives including 2 4TBs. I know I can't expand with smaller drives. I can not find a way in synology DSM 7.0 to delete the storage pool and start over. do I have to reset the system? Thanks!

To delete your current storage pool in Synology DSM 7.0 and start over with your new configuration, you don't need to reset the entire system. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

Log in to DSM: First, log into your Synology NAS using DSM 7.0.

Go to Storage Manager: Open Storage Manager from the main menu.

Locate Your Storage Pool: In the Storage Pool tab, you'll see the list of existing pools. Find the one you want to delete (the one with your two 12TB drives).

Delete the Pool:

Select the storage pool you want to delete.

Click on the Manage button, then choose Remove.

DSM will ask for confirmation and let you know that deleting the pool will erase all data, so ensure you've backed up anything important before proceeding.

Confirm the action, and DSM will begin the process of deleting the pool.

Rebuild Your Pool: Once the pool is deleted, you can create a new one with your desired 4 drives (including the 2 4TBs).
