qnap NAS and PLEX - Enquiries - 02-08-2025 Streaming music on my Yamaha receiver using Plex on my QNAP TS-233 after watching your videos. I am able to stream music purchased from iTunes, but when I try to stream music from ripped CD's I get "unable to play" message. Sometimes it almost starts to play, but then I get the error. I've read posts about clearing appdata cache in Plex but I have no idea where to find that folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. RE: qnap NAS and PLEX - ed - 02-14-2025 It sounds like your ripped CDs might be in a format that your Yamaha receiver or Plex doesn’t fully support. A couple of things to check: File Format & Codec Compatibility – iTunes music is typically AAC or MP3, but ripped CDs could be FLAC, ALAC, or WAV, which might not be supported by your receiver. Try converting one of your ripped tracks to MP3 or AAC and see if it plays. Plex Transcoding Limitations – The TS-233 has a weaker CPU that struggles with on-the-fly transcoding. If your receiver can’t play the file natively, Plex might fail to transcode it. Try directly playing a ripped song on another device (like a phone or PC) via Plex and see if it works. AppData Cache Clearing – On QNAP, the Plex AppData folder is usually under: swift Copy Edit /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/ You can SSH into your NAS or use File Station to locate and clear the Cache folder inside the Plex directory. Library Refresh & Metadata Issues – If Plex isn’t recognizing your ripped CDs properly, try removing and re-adding the music folder in Plex, then doing a full metadata refresh. |
