Re organise hard drives - Enquiries - 12-09-2024 Hi I have ds920+ with 4 6tb drives At start I used 3 drives with 4th set up as a hot spare I then had issues with faulty drives so the spare got used up I want to get back to situation with 3 drives and a hot spare. When I try to deactivate drive 4 it asks me for a synology account number. Can I switch unit off and then pull out 4th drive and then rebuild raid. I am a beginner Regards RE: Re organise hard drives - ed - 12-14-2024 Technically, if you power off the NAS and simply move the drive from Bay 4 to Bay 3, the RAID should be smart enough to recognize the drive order automatically when you power it back on. If, for some reason, it doesn’t work as expected: Power off the NAS again, remove the drive in Bay 4 entirely. Power the NAS back on and let the system rebuild the RAID with the remaining 3 drives (it should detect and adjust). Once the rebuild is complete, you can reinsert the drive in Bay 4 and set it up as a hot spare via Storage Manager. |
