To which NAS to upgrade ? - Ikar - 10-12-2024 Hello, I'm new in the forum watched your great videos and would like to hear your advice. Currently, I have a TS-453Be NAS (use 2 bays only), which is starting to experience some performance bottlenecks. The CPU utilization reaches around 70-90% during the following tasks:
When Rtorrent downloads something (runs at 65MB/s), Qsirch is automatically triggered and start indexing the new files which add ~30% to CPU util and results in 70-90% CPU util total with the Rtorrent proccess. So if I try to do anything else in parallel with an ongoing Rtorrent download session, even simple SMB share browsing becomes slow. Now, here’s my question: I’m thinking of upgrading to either the TS-262 or the TS-264. Which one would be more suitable for the needs mentioned above? Additionally, would it be beneficial to go with the TS-264 due to its 4-core CPU, which might serve me well over a longer period? Looking forward to your insights! Thank you RE: To which NAS to upgrade ? - ed - 10-17-2024 Thanks for sharing your current setup and the challenges you're facing with the TS-453Be. It sounds like you're really pushing it to its limits, especially with the combination of Acronis backups and torrent downloads. Upgrading to a new NAS is definitely a good move to alleviate those performance bottlenecks. Between the TS-262 and TS-264, I would recommend leaning toward the TS-264. The 4-core CPU will provide you with significantly better performance, especially when handling multiple tasks at once, like torrent downloads and backups. This extra processing power will help keep your CPU utilization in check, allowing you to browse your SMB shares without that frustrating slowdown during heavy operations. Plus, having a bit of extra horsepower can only help future-proof your setup.
