920+ m.2 storage pool - Enquiries - 10-04-2024

Hello, curious if you guys have ever attempted to utilize the m.2 as a storage pool on a Synology 920 plus via this GitHub post.

Yes, this method does work! You can definitely repurpose the M.2 slots on your DS920+ as a storage pool using the script from that GitHub post. However, there are a few things you need to be aware of:

DSM Updates: Every time Synology rolls out a new DSM update, you will likely need to rerun the script. The system resets the M.2 slots back to their default caching-only configuration with each update.

Potential Data Loss: Since the script has to be reapplied after updates, there’s a chance you could lose data if the volume isn’t handled properly during the process. So make sure you keep frequent backups if you decide to go down this path.

I’ve heard it can boost performance. Just double-check your M.2 compatibility and back up your data first.
