Buying a Nas - Enquiries - 03-07-2024

Buying first Nas for Plex server. Primary pc in master bedroom. Have 16Tb cheap hard drive which is full. Want 30 Tb system with Raid 1 (60 Tb) total. Want to be able to serve my family of 4 simultaneously with no lag (minimal) Not sure what to buy. Not the most computer friendly guy but have used one for a while and understand the bare basics.

Considering your requirements, I recommend two options:

Synology DS423+: This NAS is a reliable choice for single remote access streaming. With its quad-core processor and expandable RAM, it can handle Plex transcoding efficiently for one stream. It supports RAID configurations, providing data redundancy for your 30TB storage needs.

QNAP TVS-h874: If you need a more robust Plex server with the potential for future GPU card upgrades, the TVS-h874 is an excellent choice. It offers higher performance and more advanced features, making it suitable for demanding Plex usage scenarios. Its powerful hardware can handle multiple streams and support GPU acceleration for transcoding.

Both options offer quality performance within your budget. Consider your current and future streaming needs to make the best choice for your setup.
