new hard drive - Enquiries - 01-10-2024

Hello, I have been running at home a synology DS918+ for several years already, but I need more space and I want to replace the 4 drives in it before they start giving problems. My question is, which new drives would you recommend me to buy for home use? I need each drive to be 18-20TB at least, and I would like them to be quiet. Money budget should not be an issue and I do not need the best performance. Thank you very much for your advice.

Pau

Synology have started to get funny with using none Synology Drives, but this is an older model that should not have that issue.

We have dell power edge servers running HGST drives and because of this I use the same drive in my own Synology.
I've not had any issue with any HGST drives over the last 3/4 + Years. They do cost a little more, give a little more noise off but work great.
WD has also been good over the years, but after they started to used SMR I avoided them.
I've used Seagate drives too, and I will have to say I've sent about 5 or so back under warrant over the years.
I've used a few Toshiba drives, and they have been great, but not that fast.

Just for reference, I am currently monitoring and giving supports for: RS812, RS2414RP+, DS920+, DS413j x 2, DS218play, DS218j x 2, DS216play, DS214se, DS214play, DS1812+, DS1618+, DS1522+, DS1515+, DS1511+.
So Ive used a lot of drives for my clients.

PS - Im sure HGST are made by WD.
