For organizing family photos , container support for more apps to play with and a download center app. I was looking at the DS223/ds223j or Ts-233 and maybe terramaster f2-212. I want something affordable and has good AI for searching and organizing photos.

I also want some form of phone app support so i can upload photos from my phone to NAS and view them. I was leaning torwards Synology but the Qnap has more RAM at 2gb compared to the 223j. The Terramaster im not sure about.

I think i would want to avoid Asustor? I had an Asustor and was never really impressed by it, It died about 2 years ago. I also dont like that if you go to their app store most haven't been updated since 2018 or 2019 on asustor.
Certainly! Both QNAP and Synology offer great photo apps with AI features that would be suitable for organizing family photos. Considering your budget and requirements, a Realtek-based NAS like the DS223/ds223j or Ts-233 would be a good fit. While the QNAP model has more RAM at 2GB, the 1GB RAM on the Synology DS223j should be sufficient for your needs. However, if you plan to install additional apps in the future, having more RAM could be beneficial. As for Asustor, it's understandable that you may have reservations due to your previous experience. The choice ultimately depends on your preferences and budget. Both QNAP and Synology offer phone apps for easy photo uploads and viewing on your NAS. With the right choice, you'll have a reliable and feature-rich solution for organizing and accessing your family photos.
