Hi there - I am looking to purchase my first NAS system which will primarily be used to store photos and videos that I take while traveling, as well Office documents and PDFs. I have started to dabble in video editing, but I do that locally and then just upload the final product. I am thinking about the Synology DS220+ with two WD Red Plus drives (8TB each, mirrored) and I'm curious what your thoughts are on this setup? Too much? To little?
The Synology DS220+ paired with two WD Red Plus drives (8TB each) in a mirrored configuration sounds like a well-suited setup for your needs. It provides a balance between storage capacity, data redundancy, and performance. With a mirrored configuration, your data will be protected in case of a drive failure, ensuring the safety of your photos, videos, and important documents. The DS220+ offers a user-friendly interface and a wide range of features that will enhance your NAS experience. It also supports various applications that can further expand the functionality of your NAS, such as photo management tools and media servers. In terms of storage capacity, the 8TB drives should offer ample space for your files, and you can easily expand the storage in the future if needed. Overall, the DS220+ with two WD Red Plus drives is a solid choice, striking a good balance between your storage requirements and budget.
