Hi there at Nas Compares,

I would like to ask for an advice / confirmation before making the jump.

Currently I'm running a Synology DS215J and using the NAS for the following:
- Plex for video files
- 2 camera's in Surveillance Station
- Synology Drive Sync to upload/sync my photo's

My biggest issue with it is the slow ARM based processor. Obviously the ARM based processor does not support any transcoding in Plex, but displaying photos in the Plex clients is painfully slow and just not usable.
Transcoding is not a necessity for me because I make any files direct stream compatible for all my devices I stream from. But could be a nice to have for the cases where it doesn't work.

The other issue is that I'm currently not running a RAID setup that would protect my data, therefore I'd like to get a 4 bay NAS instead.

For the above requirements I'm considering the DS923+.

Just as a confirmation, would this also be your recommendation? Would the speed of the Ryzen processor be fast enough to display a photo slideshow for example? Or would that benefit more from the Celeron in the DS423+?

I'm following the YouTube videos you are releasing, but the Plex Photo functionality is never talked about. So for that reason I imagined it's better to ask.

Kind regards,
Memesa
Yes, DS423+ comes with transcoding chip. This can be handy for videos as well as photos.
DS923+ is business kind of NAS and not that good for media. Unless you only access it locally.
