Full Version: moving M.2 cache

Hello-Please pardon my mundane Q here. I headed to the Forum, but my password failed, and even after resetting said password, the system said my temp password (that you emailed to me) was invalid.

I am upgrading my NAS from a Synology 918+ to a 1522+. The 918+ has a cache configured with (Synology M.2 2280 NVMe SSD SNV3400 400GB) x 2. I suspect this is overkill for my use-case and I would like to move one of the modules to the new drive so each NAS has a 400 GB cache.

Is this advisable? Could this be harmful to existing data? I would be grateful if you could point me towards more information.

Thank You!
stephen
With a single NVMe stick you can only enable read cache. If this is OK with you you can disable the existing cache and move one stick over to your new NAS.
Otherwise, if you need write a cache, you need to get another NVMe.
