Hello! I am a big fan. Found you guys on Youtube and cannot thank you enough for the help. I currently have a 8TB WD MyCloud Home which is starting to fail. I am now looking to upgrade/pivot. I am hoping you could help me with a recommendation?

My biggest use cases are:
1. PLEX
2. Client Data (Graphic Design, Raw Video Files, etc.)

For PLEX, nearly my library is either 720p or 1080p. I rarely deal with 4K. However, I do have a decent amount of HEVC (H.265) and MKV files, and want the playback to be snappy and efficient.

For clients, I am looking primarily to store and share files with guest users to view/download.

Other features or capabilities (like mobile app ease of use) are nice but not as critical.

The NAS I seem to be gravitating towards currently are the Synology DS220+ (with upgraded ram) and the QNAP TS-253 but open to any thoughts or suggestions.

Love you guys! And thank you so much.
The Synology DS220+ is a great option for your use cases, and let me provide you with some additional information to help you make a decision.

For your PLEX needs, the DS220+ is capable of transcoding 1080p and even some 4K video files with hardware acceleration, which means that playback should be snappy and efficient. With its Intel Celeron J4025 CPU and 2GB of RAM (which can be upgraded to 6GB), the DS220+ is a reliable and efficient choice for handling your media library.

For client data storage and sharing, the DS220+ offers user-friendly and intuitive management tools, including file access control and customized links for guest users to download specific files. The DS220+ also has a wide range of third-party applications available through Synology's package center, which allows for added functionality and customization.

The DS220+ is an easy-to-use and reliable option for your needs, and it has a more user-friendly interface compared to some other NAS options. It's worth noting that the QNAP TS-253d is a replaced NAS, which means that it may not have the latest and greatest features or support from QNAP. Therefore, if ease of use and a wider range of third-party applications are important to you, the DS220+ may be the better choice.

Overall, the Synology DS220+ is a solid option for your needs and can handle your PLEX and client data storage and sharing requirements with ease.
