I currently have a Synology ds 918+. With most of my collection being 4K, I have been having issues with playback. “Server not powerful enough to play file”. I would want to play any file at original quality. If I were to upgrade to another nas and that nas were of a different manufacturer like QNAP, would I be able to install and play my four 6tb drives with my movies without complications? Would there be any issues going to a different manufacturer? What would you recommend for me to do? What unit would you advise me to upgrade to avoid 4K problems? Thankfully, Charles
If you're looking to upgrade to a NAS that can handle 4K playback without any issues, I would recommend the QNAP TVS-h674 or the TS-473A models. Both of these models support GPU cards and have an i5 CPU which can handle 4K playback. Additionally, they have multiple drive bays so you can install your existing four 6TB drives without any issues.

In terms of switching from a Synology NAS to a QNAP NAS, there shouldn't be any major issues with compatibility. As long as your drives are formatted in a compatible file system (such as ext4 or NTFS), you should be able to simply plug them into the QNAP NAS and access your files. However, it's always a good idea to make a backup of your data before making any major changes to your setup.

I hope this helps!
