Hello,

i am looking for my first NAS. It will be used as a surveillance system 6 cameras (5Mpix). i would like to install on the same NAS a virtual machine with Homeassistant used for smart home stuff. And some storage for photos.

Thank you
The Synology DS420+ is a great option for your use case as it has a built-in GPU that can accelerate video transcoding, which is important for remote CCTV access. Additionally, it has the processing power and memory to handle multiple virtual machines and storage needs.

Here are some further specifications and considerations to keep in mind:

Processor: Intel Celeron J4025 dual-core 2.0 GHz (burst up to 2.9 GHz)
Memory: 2GB DDR4 (expandable up to 6GB)
Storage: Four drive bays supporting up to 64TB of storage (with 16TB drives)
Virtualization: Supports multiple virtual machines using Synology Virtual Machine Manager
Transcoding: Built-in hardware-accelerated transcoding engine with a dedicated GPU for up to two 4K streams simultaneously
Surveillance: Supports up to 16 IP camera streams and includes two free camera licenses (additional licenses can be purchased if needed)
Overall, the DS420+ should be able to handle your surveillance needs, virtual machine requirements, and photo storage without any issues.
