Looking to purchase a first NAS. Looking at storage of Photos and home videos mainly to possibly stream to Sony KD55 a1 tv. Our router is a Linksys Velop MX 8400 ( 2 4200 nodes ) Running 2 MacBook pros, older quad core i7 with radion graphics card and a brand new M2 max. Watched lots of your videos about Synology NAS but, would like some advice about which one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not especially tech savvy, looking at ease of use as a major factor. Later addition of CCTV a possibility.
Based on your needs, I would recommend the Synology DS220+ over the DS218play. Here's why:

The Synology DS220+ is a more powerful NAS than the DS218play, and it is better suited for storing and organizing personal photos. The DS220+ comes with Synology Photos, a powerful photo management solution that makes it easy to organize and share your photos. With Synology Photos, you can easily categorize your photos by date, location, people, and more, and you can access them from anywhere using Synology's mobile app or web interface.

In addition, the DS220+ has a more advanced CPU and more RAM than the DS218play, which means it can handle more tasks and users at the same time. This is especially important if you need to retrieve photos remotely and quickly on demand.

The DS220+ also offers a range of other features that would be useful for storing personal photos, such as hardware-accelerated transcoding for streaming media to different devices, and the ability to set up automatic backups to protect your photos against data loss.

Overall, I would recommend the Synology DS220+ for your needs. It is a powerful and versatile NAS that is well-suited for storing and organizing personal photos, and it offers a great set of features and performance at an affordable price point.
