My TVs-671 i5 has just died and I need a replacement machine. I use it mainly for 4k video streaming of my ripped DVD’s and saving some docs, Time Machine and artwork.

Is the TVS-872xt still a good option or is the TVS-h874 a better bet given its lack of HDMI 2.0, thunderbolt and 10Gbe and £500 extra cost?

I have a 10g Qm2 card which I can stick into the 874 but the HDMI 1.4 is a bummer. To not have native 10Gbe in such a powerful Nas seems obtuse.

I need a Qnap to retain my data on the hdd’s. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
John

It depends on your specific needs and priorities. The TVS-872XT is a good option for 4K video streaming and offers good performance with its i7 processor, 10GB Ethernet support and multiple drive bays for data storage. However, it is more expensive than the TVS-671.

The TVS-h874 is a more powerful machine with a more powerful processor, and the ability to add a 10Gbe card for faster networking speeds, but it does lack some features such as HDMI 2.0, Thunderbolt and native 10Gbe, which might be important to you.

If you prioritize 4K video streaming and fast data transfer speeds, the TVS-872XT is a good option. If you need a more powerful machine with better processing capabilities and the ability to add a 10Gbe card, the TVS-h874 may be a better option, but it comes with a higher price tag.

Ultimately, it depends on your specific needs and budget, and I recommend considering your priorities and needs before making a decision.
