I enjoy watching your channel and love the way you explain things. I have a WDPR4100 and now that WD no longer supports this device I am looking to upgrade it. I have 4 x 10TB =40TB WD RED Hard Drives connected to it. I am also looking for another 4 bay. I use it for work and for PLEX. I have watched your videos and was looking into the Qnap-TS464. Is this unit quiet? Any advice would be very helpful and appreciated. Side question- How do you prevent Nas devices from getting dusty? I heard if you put a stocking over the fan this helps. Thoughts?

Best,

Jason
I'm glad you find my explanations helpful! The QNAP TS-464 is a powerful 4-bay NAS that would be a suitable upgrade for your current setup. It supports up to 40TB of storage with 4 x 10TB hard drives, and is designed for small and medium-sized businesses. It is also compatible with PLEX, making it a great option for media streaming.

As for noise level, the QNAP TS-464 is designed to be quiet and has a built-in cooling system to keep the device cool. However, as with any electronic device, the noise level can vary depending on usage and environment.

To prevent dust accumulation on your NAS, it's a good idea to place it in a well-ventilated area and to clean it regularly. Using a soft cloth or compressed air to dust the device and its vents can help keep it clean. Additionally, placing a stocking over the fan can help to prevent dust from entering the device. However, it's important to ensure that the device still has enough ventilation to dissipate heat, so it's best to use it with caution.

In general, keeping your NAS in a cool and dry place, away from dust and direct sunlight, is the best way to prevent dust accumulation, and keeping the fans clean will help the device to run more efficiently and with less noise.
Or maybe consider silent NAS options https://www.qnap.com/en-us/product/?conditions=3-2
