Hi, I have a DS920+ as my main, I need to back it up, I am considering a 220J at another location. Is it a good d choice, or do I need a BTRFS unit? Also, should I use a RAID 1 or no RAID in the 2bay NAS, Thanks!! you guys are great!
The Synology DS220j is a good choice for backing up your main Synology DS920+ NAS, as it is an affordable and easy-to-use NAS device with good performance. It has a dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM, which should be sufficient for backing up your data.

In terms of the file system, the DS220j supports both BTRFS and ext4 file systems. BTRFS is a copy-on-write file system that is designed for data integrity and efficient snapshotting, which can be useful for backup purposes. However, ext4 is a widely used file system that is generally more compatible with a wide range of devices, so it may be a better choice if you want to ensure maximum compatibility.

As for the RAID configuration, you have a few options to consider. If you want to ensure the maximum data protection, you may want to use RAID 1 on the DS220j, which will create a mirrored copy of your data on the two drives. This means that if one of the drives fails, you will still have a copy of your data on the other drive.

Alternatively, you could choose to not use RAID on the DS220j and instead rely on the backup function of the Synology DS920+ to create a separate copy of your data. This may be a good choice if you don't need the added data protection of RAID and want to take advantage of the full capacity of the drives on the DS220j.

Ultimately, the best RAID configuration and file system for you will depend on your specific needs and priorities. It may be helpful to consider your budget, the amount of data you need to store, and the level of data protection you require when making your decision.
