Hi, hope is the right place to make this question.

i own a synology nas ds414j with two old wd red 6tb (efrx) in a SHR Raid. One drive failed, so, without checking too much, i bought a ready available new wd red plus 6tb. When i tried to repair the storage pool, a compatibility warning has appeared. Looks like the wd red plus is compatible from the synology series 16 onward. Not in the list of compatibility for the ds414. After following your videos i learned that both the old wd red and the new wd red plus should be CMR. So, would it be a good idea to pop the red plus in anyway, to pair with the old wd red? Or is it better not to? And in this case what should i do? Give up and buy another hd, maybe the red pro instead (witch is compatible with the ds 414j)? Or buy another old EFRX , witch is costly and hard to find?
Thank you thank you thank you
Sergio
Yes, you could use this new WD Red drive despite this warning. With a little bit of Linux knowledge, it is possible to get rid of this message.
WD Red Pro, would work as described, but it is a much louder drive. Not sure you would want this at home.
All of this is just a Synology big plan to move towards Synology only drives.
