Hi I have watched your intros to Synology DSM7 I currently am a Netgear Readynas user but after a recently replaced 626x I am looking at the Synology DS1621XS+
The problem I have is I don't seem to be able to get my head around the file part
On the Netgear Readynas I have mainly music and films I know how to create a share / folder allow access it shows up in finder on my Mac and if I click on it it shows the shares /folders click on that drop movie etc onto required folder Share job done
When setting up Kodi /Plex direct to either the IP address / Films etc map a drive in windows from my HTPC so that Plex accesses the media source same with Kodi
I just don't want to jump out of the frying pan if I have got this wrong
With Synology once you have created the volume with my Readynas I have only one volume but say four shares FILMS/MUSIC/Windows Backup/Roon Backup all very simple
But with the Synology it all seems quiet complicated also as I only use my nas basically for watching films from what you say I don't think I would benefit from nvme ssd cache
Any help suggestions would be much appreciated also would I still be able to use my 526X to back up the shares folders from the Synology as to start with buying two is a bit heavy going
I would reuse the Seagate Ironwolf Pro 10TB drives I have in the 626x they are in the compatible list of Synology Seagate ST10000NE0004 I am currently using RAID 5

Kind Regards

Peter Scott
