I want to move from my current DS1520+ to a DS1621+ to get 10Gb interface via expansion card.

Is my 1520 actually a better Plex performer as it is Intel based and not an AMD (aka will I actually be down grading)?

There does not seem to be a current Desktop NAS from Synology that has both Hardware acceleration and 10Gb capability... is there?

Also do you prefer SHR 4+1 with a (COLD or HOT) SPARE over a 4+2 without a spare?

Yes, even though DS1621+ has no graphics chip, it can still transcode using software transcoding if you need to access multimedia over the internet. For local streaming, graphics is not important unless you have non-compatible TVs with video formats.Having a dedicated transcoding chip keeps the NAS performance stable during the video conversion process. Otherwise other users might notice a slowdown during these times.I hope this helps.
