Need to store photos/videos and data securely and be able to upload photos (if possible) and edit remotely. Ideally would be helpful to backup from a NAS device to a second location/expansion unit.

I would recommend models with built-in graphics chip. Synology is easy to set up and use.You will also get a great photo and video apps like Moments/Photos allowing you to organize photos similar to Facebook and iPhone do with artificial intelligence.DS218play and DS220+ would be the cheapest options for a 2bay option for a home.I hope this helps.
