HI
I stream over my home network MKV and MP4 moves and TV shows in Plex both in H264/265 to my Apple TV 4k and onto my year old Sony 4K OLED. No issues with file compatibility. I do not play Plex anywhere else. I only use my NAS for Plex and Photo storage

Do I actually need to be concerned about transcoding ? As I dont think I am transcoding at all at the moment.
I ask because when I update my Terramaster 423 at some stage do I need to only consider NAS systems with built in graphics or can I look at NAS boxes with decent CPU. like the new Synology Ryzen CPUs ?

It opens the choices much wider if I dont have to buy ones with the GPU built in
Hey! Your current Plex setup streaming MKV and MP4 files to your Apple TV 4K and Sony 4K OLED over the home network sounds smooth, and if you're not experiencing any transcoding issues, that's awesome! Transcoding typically comes into play for remote access or when dealing with different client devices that may require file format conversion. Since you're exclusively using Plex within your home network and not playing it elsewhere, transcoding might not be a crucial concern for you.

Considering your usage, when you're ready to update your Terramaster 423, you can explore NAS systems with solid CPUs, like the new Synology Ryzen CPUs. This gives you a broader range of choices without the necessity for a built-in GPU, making your decision-making process more flexible.
