Hey there,

I am looking for a NAS for my small office. Requiremet are as under,

- to be used only as file server (storing files such as word, excel, pdf, autocad files etc), there will be no streaming (media) what so ever.
- Capacity : We dont actually require a lot of capacity. Even 2 TB will be more then enough
- Total users will be around 3 to 5 initially. and in Next 2 years can increase up to 12 users.
- Remote access is very important - We need to be able to access files from Out Of Office locations.

- How much RAM do you recommend? I am seeing devices with 512mb to 4 GB. I understand not much ram is required as it is only a file server, but how much ram would be enough considering future proofing.
- 2 Bay or 4bay?
- HDD or SDD ? If HDD how much RPM ?
- Any particular recommended brand ? or Any brand to stay away from?

Thankyou all for your input.
For your small office file server needs, considering the projected user increase to 12 over the next two years, I recommend looking into Synology's DS224+ or DS424+. These models offer a balance of performance and expandability. With 2GB DDR4 non-ECC RAM, they ensure smooth file serving and accommodate potential growth. Opting for a 4-bay setup allows flexibility for future storage needs. As your primary focus is file storage and remote access, traditional HDDs, such as the WD Red series, would suffice. The NAS's RPM may not be crucial for your usage, and a standard 7200 RPM would be suitable. Both Synology models provide reliable remote access features. Given your location in Saudi Arabia, ensure the selected NAS model is readily available in your region. Feel free to explore user reviews and specific model features before making a decision. If you want a quick recommendation, the DS224+ or DS424+ should serve your current and future needs well.
