Hi there! I just came across all your posts and man do I need some help. Firstly I have been using a Drobo 5d3 for a long time now directly connected to my iMac 5k and then to my my studio. Never had any issues and had Plex running flawlessly. However the Drobo failed and the company is out of business now. So I ended up buying a Synology which I thought would be perfect. I bought the DS1522+ 5bay. I dropped in 5x 12TB drives and set it all up. This is all new and building out took forever and the transfer of media took even longer. Finally got it all setup and now that I have upgraded my TV and Surround sound system I wanted to start upgrading my content to 4k. However as soon as a 4k stream starts I see it immediately using 100% of cpu on the Synology. What can I do to resolve this? I would hate to scrap a brand new Synology I just bought! There must be a way to be able to enjoy 4k both local and remote using this setup. Do I have to make sure the files are a certain forma
It's unfortunate to hear about the Drobo situation, and I understand your concerns with the new Synology DS1522+. To improve 4K streaming performance, a few considerations might help. Firstly, ensure your 4K files are in a format that your Plex client can direct play/stream without transcoding, as transcoding 4K content can strain the NAS. Also, check your Plex settings to ensure you have "Use hardware acceleration when available" enabled. The DS1522+ supports hardware transcoding, and this can significantly offload processing tasks. Additionally, consider connecting your Synology via a wired Gigabit Ethernet connection for optimal network speed. If issues persist, reaching out to Synology support or the community forums could provide more tailored assistance.
